We’re listening carefully to you as we develop the Jinni service and really appreciate all the thoughtful feedback we’ve received. A lot of people have asked for options to import ratings from other sites – which is already possible from Netflix – and now we’re turning to you to tell us how you’d like to see this feature prioritized.
Thanks to everyone who voted!
Stay tuned - we’ll be bringing import ratings options to Jinni based on your feedback, including sites requested in the comments like RottenTomatoes and Metacritic.
I do most of my rating on Netflix, and I try to vote on IMDB when I can, but because IMDB is stuck in 10 * mode, it’s less appealing to me. But, if anything, I’d like to see IMDB next… I didn’t know you could import movie ratings from Facebook (?).
From the list above Flixster is priority for me but I’ve been a member of Lovefilm.com for years and they have a very similar rating system to Flixster. Ideally I would love to import my ratings from Lovefilm as this is the one I update regularly and has all my ratings. More details here: http://www.lovefilm.com/.
On facebook a lot of my friends including myself use “living social: movies”. They offer an export file. Is there a way to import that onto this site? Honestly I hate the recommendations on living social but I have rated so many movies I cant make the switch until there is a way.
IMDB…. While they may be stuck in dark ages as far as site look and feel they are the most comprehensive movie database. Some sort of integration of Jinni and IMDB would be great to see.
IMDB is, just because of comprehensiveness, my vote.
As long as we’re talking about features for Jinni, the feature that’d curl my toes would be the ability to link to a rental/purchase site. Ideally, it’d work like this: I’d add the site(s) to my account, then when looking at a movie I’m interested in, I’d be able (via drop-down list, mayhaps), to jump to one of the sites I’d added: Amazon, Greencine, Netflix - in order to rent or buy the movie. That’d make Jinni my front-end for movie selection, rather than my side plate.
I voted for imdb but only because it was a better than the other two. IMO what you really should be importing is MovieLens from the U of MN, which is far more accurate that either netflix or imdb. carol
You can already do this with Netflix. Just link your Netflix account and whenever you see a movie on this site that you want to rent, just click Netflix add button.
Why are so many people here not realizing this already?
Most people know about IMDB, but a lot of movie fans always see problems with the ratings (in the same vain as people rushing to see a movie that critics hates). At the same time, not everybody uses Facebook, so that will eliminate some. Actual movie fans I think will use Flixster, so you will get bigger movie fans to perhaps give more honest votes on more movies. Besides…Flixster is in Facebook…..and so is Netflix.
I’ll give another vote for Criticker, although I don’t know how they’d import ratings from there because they don’t average out ratings. They just show scores and predict what score you’ll give a movie based on your past ratings. They’re usually accurate, that’s my favorite movie site I found more great movies from Criticker than any other site.
IMDb pisses me off. It’s ugly as hell and so many people are like “The movie was pretty good, 10 stars!” or
It depends on what you are you using the recommendations for. If you are using it to help people decide what to buy next based on past empirical data then use IMDB or Baseline as they are the most robust. IMDB of course is good as they are owned by Amazon and producers will see a good portion of revenues from this system which will allow them to pay back loans on the films.
If you are trying to build a system that will lower the acquisition costs for online rental companies to help drive down the price of DVD…use Netflix. This engine, albeit good for consumers is in fact very hurtful to the independent film world as it allows Netflix to predetermine how many units to buy in advance and then only allocate a portion of that purchase price back to the producer. Revenues are already showing that this will decrease film revenue back to the filmmaker by over 300% over the last 2 years.
There needs to be a balance in how people consume media, and how the hundreds of thousands of people who make these films earn a living.
The only way to make your topic like this topic, more well known, is to use the help of the article submission service. We trust, such suggestion will help you to continue your project!
Surely you can pay your cash for some things or some books, however, that does not help you to get good grades. You should spend your money in a wise way, for example for grant writing company.

As a die hard movie, IMDB is all I care about.
If you have a choice though, why not add them all and let each person choose which to apply to their profile or even to combine them?

I’d like to see ratings from Metacritic.com. Its ratings aggregate published movie and video reviews, so they’re pretty reliable.
